Bright,crisp,clean,glossy laminated,wrap-around colour pictorial artwork cartoon by GILES, illustrated card covers; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners - no major nicks or tears present - laminate intact and unworn.Both covers virtually unscored and indentation-free,minor wrinkles but no creasing to upper cover's lower,right-hand corner with a tiny,tiny snick about 1" in, along the lower edge.Appears unread - no reading creases to spine/backstrip.All staples,top+bottom,front+ rear are rusted,but without bleeding through to the card covers.Top+fore-edges,inevitably,but lightly aged/toned - as usual/normal; contents bright,tight and clean - near pristine - one accidental dog-ear crease to lower corner of pp113/4,no other creases to any other pages' corners.UK,slim landscape 12mo wraps,1st edn, 164pp [unpaginated] includes title page,an introduction by Sean Connery,with his b/w portrait photograph and his facsimile signature, profuse b/w topical cartoons.Cover scene: Terraced houses scene with Ernie shyly, holding a bunch of flowers behind his back and leaning against the house's gate whilst looking at a little girl next door.Leaning against the next-door neighbour's gate is a coy,little girl, whilst down the street and to the rear cover; Stinker is aiming a large bow and arrow at another child on top of the garden's hedge,who's dressed as Cupid. Carl 'GILES' - known just by his surname worldwide,had been the regular cartoonist for the 'Daily Express' (a UK tabloid newspaper) in London,from about the middle of WW2.Since 1946 (the first annual comprising several years works up to issue No.6,this being the first to feature a single year)),collections of his much detailed and imaginative cartoons,in book form,have appeared both annually and regularly,with compilations even appearing after his death.The cartoons are based on a 'family unit' - from babies to Grandma and the many relatives in between.The humorous punchlines to the cartoons were usually topical and reflected British humour,but it's the plethora of visual jokes and puns within the cartoon, thereby ensuring an enduring appeal to collectors of his works.
