Bright,crisp,clean,glossy laminated,wrap-around colour pictorial artwork cartoon by GILES, illustrated card covers; with negligible shelf-wear,some creasing to edges and corners - no major tears present - laminate near intact apart from some minor,miniscule rubbing with commensurate loss.Towards top,right-hand corner a minor crease,tiny crease to lower corner on same cover.Laminate minisculely rubbed to both head+foot of spine/backstrip gutter edges of both covers,to upper cover's top,right-hand corner too - and similar miniscule rubbing with commensurate loss,to rear cover's vertical fore-edge.Two diagonal creases from lower 1/3rd of rear,vertical fore-edge towards rear cover's lower edge,again with commensurate wrinkling. Top,rear corner also has a diagonal crease.All staples,upper+lower,front+rear are rusted - but without affecting the card covers.Top+fore-edges inevitably aged/toned - as usual/normal; contents generally bright,tight and clean - with no dog-ear reading creases to pages' corners.UK, slim landscape 12mo wraps,1st edn,128pp [unpaginated] includes title page,an introduction by Annigoni (Famous as painter of Queen Elizabeth II portrait painting) with quotes and his choice of his favourite GILES cartoon,profuse b/w topical cartoons.Described hard,but fairly and honestly.Of the previous similar annuals listed,this is one of the more fault-affected example.Cover scene: Giles's family out in woods on a nature ramble, inspecting a large brood of eggs on the wood's floor,whilst to rear cover,Stinker,is photographing an approaching crocodile coming along the woodland path. Carl 'GILES' - known just by his surname worldwide,had been the regular cartoonist for the 'Daily Express' (a UK tabloid newspaper) in London,from about the middle of WW2.Since 1946 (the first annual comprising several years works up to issue No.6,this being the first to feature a single year),collections of his much detailed and imaginative cartoons,in book form,have appeared both annually and regularly,with compilations even appearing after his death.The cartoons are based on a 'family unit' - from babies to Grandma and the many relatives in between.The humorous punchlines to the cartoons were usually topical and reflected British humour,but it's the plethora of visual jokes and puns within the cartoon, thereby ensuring an enduring appeal to collectors of his works.
