Original letter typed in blue ink on beige paper. Includes two signatures in black and blue ink, respectively, "Gibson" and "B. Grant Taylor." Letter on government stationery with the following printed header: "The Judicial Council of the State of California, State Building, San Francisco." Embossed California Supreme Court seal also on letter. "No. 307-42" typed at top under the date. January 12, 1942. 8 1/2" x 11." One page. Letter is very clean and intact except for light age toning, three horizontal fold lines, and slight wrinkling. A Very Good, almost Near Fine copy. Phil H. Gibson (1888-1984) was the 22nd Chief Justice of California who served in that position for over twenty-four years from 1940-1964. To this day, Gibson is the second-longest-serving Chief Justice in the California Supreme Court. Gibson is also named as Chairman of the Judicial Council on this letter. B. Grant Taylor (1872-?) was a court reporter (1904-1910), member of the California Judicial Council (1926-1984), and Clerk of the California Supreme Court and Secretary of the Judicial Council (1926-1984). In this brief letter, Gibson confirms the appointment of Robert L. Williams as a justice of the District Court of Appeal, First Appellate District, Division Two.
