German Prisoners in Great Britain

Tillotson & Son., Ltd (Printer), 1922

62 pages (complete). A fascinating booklet of photographs of German Prisoners of War in Britain during the Great War. The photographs were taken for the Wurtemberg War Exhibition (Queen Mary, George V's wife, was related to the King and Queen of Wurtemberg). However they were never used. This dates the photographs as having been taken in 1916 (after the Somme and overlapping with the American entry into the war). These photographs, in astonishing good condition, show a well-fed, cheerful and busy prisoner population. The only record of publication of this collection is from the early 1920s. Consequently, one can assume that although they were taken by the Royal Flying Corps, they were owned by the Americans who did not release them for propaganda purposes. This copy has a thick paper cover that is worn, torn and scuffed. The linen-board cover is tidy and smart with some light marking. The guttering inside is initially a little cracked but the book is secure. The pages are clean, clear, gregarious, vivid and without comment. fk. Book Condition: Fair. Binding: Soft cover. Jacket: Poor
