Collection of original documents relating to the Hutchins family in Piscataquis and Penobscot Counties, Maine. Several papers that may or may not relate to the Hutchins family are also included. Multiple dates, circa 1840-1871. Most of the papers are dated to the 1840s. Documents range in size from between about 5 1/2" x 1 1/4" and 8" x 10." Documents have multiple stated locations in Maine including, but not limited to, Atkinson, Bangor, and Kenduskeag. Documents are clean and intact overall but some are more worn or damaged than others. All of the documents have light age toning and minuscule soiling. Most, if not all, of the documents have fold lines and slight wrinkling. A few have significant staining. The documents range between Good and Very Good. The collection as a whole is Good. This collection includes twenty-eight autograph documents relating to the Hutchins family. Also included are documents that may or may not relate to the Hutchins family which are listed as follows: twelve torn signatures including one note or letter, multiple handwritten fragments on paper, and six miscellaneous paper items. The twenty-eight handwritten Hutchins family documents comprise bills, receipts, deeds, promises to pay off debts (IOUs), brief notes, loan papers, and the like. Of these twenty-eight documents, most of them have a stated location in Atkinson or Bangor. Twelve different signatures of area residents also appear on the twenty-eight documents. The miscellaneous items are an invitation to the Promenade Concert and Ball (1871), a letter in envelope addressed to "Master Everet Drew," a clipped illustration of a train, a receipt or bill of items purchased (including a "coffee pot," "flower box," "egg slice," "water pot," and "tin pail"), a brief letter, and an invitation to a meeting of the Amity Debating Club (1846)..
