The title pages state Volumes XXVI and XXVII respectively. This bound volume contains two short stories by Edgar Allan Poe and a 5 page literary criticism of Poe by James Russell Lowell. This is the first article in February, 1845 issue, and it includes the mezzotint steel plate engraving of Poe based on the painting by A. C. Smith and engraved by Welch & Walter. This portrait shows a younger and seemingly happier Poe than the famous portrait we normally see. There are also two short stories by Poe in the second half of the book. "The Imp of the Perverse" begins on Page 4, and "The System of Dr. Tarr and Professor Fether" begins on page 193.This book has a LOT of interesting articles of history and literature and many fascinating plates.
