Original publisher's multicolored paper wrappers with a color illustration on the front cover of a giant man holding two test tubes, each containing a nude man and woman. Illustration accompanies the featured novel, "The Elixir of Hate." White spine with black lettering. 6 1/2" x 9 1/4." 144 pages, complete. Black-and-white illustrations, complete. Advertisements are interspersed throughout. Pages and covers are clean and intact overall. Pages are fragile and age-toned. Some chipping at the edges and spine. Tape repair on covers and spine (about three pieces of tape centered along spine). Dampstaining on top and bottom throughout. The dampstaining is most apparent on the covers and first few pages but fades farther in; text is still readable on covers and pages. A Good Copy. Famous Fantastic Mysteries was a science fiction and fantasy pulp magazine edited by Mary Gnaedinger. The first issue appeared in 1939. Its popularity quickly led to the publication of a companion magazine, Fantastic Novels. The last issue of Famous Fantastic Mysteries was published in 1953. The October 1942 issue. This is one of the issues in which Famous Fantastic Mysteries and Fantastic Novels were combined. The following are in this issue: a complete book-length novel, "The Elixir of Hate," by George Allan England; a serial, "Into the Infinite," by Austin Hall; and a feature, "The Readers' Viewpoint.".
