This passionately researched and compiled book, for its age and for the use it obviously has had, is in very good condition. Its dark claret cloth cover is worn and marked. The ferocious illustration on the cover and the print are still strong and clear. The cover has the evidence of much handling and shelving. The corners and edges are worn. The corners have shelf depressions. The back cover is rubbed. The corners at the back cover are shelf/ storage punched and depressed. The spine has fading and much wear to the edges and to the head and foot. The print is still clear and stoic. The seams are worn and places cracked. However, the binding is strong, secure and flexible. The protective front and end papers are firm and well attached. A previous owner has inscribed on the obverse frontispage and obverse front page. The first pages, including a detailed, fresh, folded illustrations sheet, are marked by handling and age. Inside there are photographic and drawn illustration plates - all of which are present. The pages are complete, clear, clean, firm to the touch. The paper trim edges of this fascinating, still informative book have storage markings. Much of the information is reflective and personally observed and researched - all 547 pages including some adventurous photographs of the author are present. fk. Book Condition: Very Good. No publication or edition date is printed but the preface is dated 1919. This copy of Fitzsimon's well known book about snakes and their venom is quarter bound in leather. The condition of the leather is very good: it is barely worn and is strong, polished by handling and firm. The cloth covering has shelving markings and wear. The patterned inside front cover and frontispage have previous owner markings. According to its age the pages have very general, sporadic foxing. The condition of the contents is very good.
