ERIC R.D.MACLAGAN : Leaves in the Road. Poems. (INSCRIBED)

Howard Wilford Bell, London, 1901

First Edition (first printing). This copy inscribed by the author at the head of the upper board: "C.C.Hood - from E.M."; and with an additional presentation inscription at the head of the title page:" Cilia from Eric's mother 4 Dec. 1904 - Eric's birthday". Slim 8vo. 30pp. Stiff card boards with an integral dust wrapper featuring a design by the author (repeated on the title page). The front free endpaper detached and laid-in (and featuring a large blue-pencilled letter "L", as does a second copy we have noted). The binding just a little tender, and reinforced at the front hinge. Some toning to the wrappers, and a little spotting to half a dozen concluding leaves. A good bright copy of the author's most uncommon first book, printed at the Chiswick Press and published whilst he was an undergraduate at Oxford. (Sir Eric Maclagan was a celebrated art historian, and the Director of the Victoria and Albert Museum for twenty-one years. Before that post he worked for the Ministry of Information in Paris where he was attached to the British peace delegation and also a member of Edith Wharton's "set"). [A light item, UK postage will be reduced].. Book. Book Condition: Good. Binding: Soft cover
