Dennis Driscoll et al : Collection of Sixty-five Original Business Letters, Bills, and Receipts Relating to the Dennis Driscoll Family, Boston and Brookline, Massachusetts and Newport, Rhode Island, 1889-1890s

Collection of 65 original business letters, bills, and receipts from the Dennis Driscoll family, namely, five letters, two bills or receipts from the Driscolls to others, and 58 bills or receipts from various businesses acknowledging they have been paid by the Driscolls. Printed and handwritten text on beige paper. 1889-1890s. Items measure between about 4 1/2" x 3 1/4" to 8 1/2" x 14." Most are about 8 1/2" x 5 1/2." Of the letters, three are from Newport, one is from Boston, and the other is from an unknown location. Of the 60 bills and receipts, 22 are from Newport and about 36 are from Boston or Brookline (a few are undisclosed; one is from Hull, MA). One of the billheads is from Dennis; he had a masonry, carpentry, and landscaping business. At least two items show he worked on Newport mansions including that of W. K. Vanderbilt. Each item is clean and intact except for a few stains and slight age toning, wrinkling, and splitting. Each item and entire collection are Very Good. The following lists summarize the collection. Five letters: (1) Jeremiah Donovan to Dennis, Newport, 1893, with envelope: Donovan informs Dennis about the labor union, recent developments, and possible arrangements. (2) James Driscoll & Sons to C. E. Clark, Newport, 1891: James writes Clark about the prices for different building materials and services such as concrete and excavating earth. (3) Brown & Howard to Driscoll, Newport, 1891/94: Brown & Howard asks for payment from Driscoll stating they desperately need the money. (4) Ernest W. Bowditch to Dennis, Boston, 1890: Bowditch writes that a check is enclosed (not included anymore) for Dennis's work on Mrs. H. M. Brooks's estate. (5) C. [Horseman?] to Dennis, [1896?]: Horseman asks Dennis to send a duplicate check he had misplaced. Two bills or receipts to parties doing business with the Driscolls: (1) C. E. Clark, 1890. (2) Anonymous to Dennis, 1890s (on "Dennis Driscoll, Dr., Contractor" stationery). 65 bills or receipts acknowledging the Driscolls paid for goods or services (most are to Dennis; any listed items with only the business name are to Dennis): (1-19) 19 receipts to J.
