David Ashfield was one of Kurt Deitrick's most celebrated models and one of the most popular male-nude models of the 1980's. The print measures 5 X 7 inches and is encased in an oversize thick protective plastic sheet. It shows the boyishly handsome, lean, muscular, and well-endowed David Ashfield at the peak of his beauty in one of his most beautiful poses, a full-frontal, fully erect shot. Why beautiful? According to Peter Hujar, the (still-very-controversial) erection is the human male body in its most beautiful state. It is the "middle" state between normal/"soft" and orgasm/"explosive", when the human male, not just the body, becomes "state-less", however fleetingly. This is not a digital print or a later, contemporary print but was printed directly from the original negatives in the 1980's, at the time of first publication. Beautifully developed, with great clarity and warm tones, on Kodak photographic paper.
