No owner inscrptn,and no price-clip to protected dw/dj.Bright,crisp,clean,colour photographic collage by Raymond Hawkey; with negligible shelf-wear and creasing to edges and corners. Dw/dj spine/backstrip slightly sunned/faded as normal,with very miniscule and light chipping/ rubbing to both head+foot of same,and with minimal loss.Rear top corner lightly rubbed and a miniscule nick to top rear edge of dw/dj.Top edge slightly dust-soiled and aged with fore-edges less so and much brighter and cleaner; contents very bright,tight and clean.Includes original facsimile TOP SECRET wallet with all 10 original facsimile documents,laid loosely in; dealing with the events which take place just before the beginning of the story. Described hard but fairly.UK 1st published a few days after it's US equivalent (PUTNAM).It was also the first of DEIGHTON's novels to be issued in a coloured dw/dj.The complete text of the 1st was also serialised prior to publication in four issues of PLAYBOY magazine,from Dec 1966 to March 1967. Deighton's 5th novel featuring Harry Palmer,set in Paris,the title supposedly, coming from a remark credited to Oscar Wilde. The birds flew around for nothing but the hell of it.
