262 pages, 8vo (230 x 160 mm), original red cloth

Captain Dean weaves an extraordinary tale of his stay of almost six years in South Africa from 1900, of his dreams to create an Ethiopian empire in Pondoland and later in Basutoland and of his experiences in the Boer War. The greater part of the book deals with his time in South Africa. It is perhaps a unique African-American view of early twentieth century South Africa and the Boer War.
