24mo - over 5" - 5¾" tall. On offer are two [2] super, original manuscript letters dated 1875 handwritten by David Bronson of Strabane [a town located about 20 kilometres northwest of Hamilton, Ontario] West Ontario, Canada to his brother Stephen Bronson and one letter is also addressed to a second brother Lanny (?) Bronson. One letter is four pages dated December 17 and the other is two pages dated December 27 with both letters dated 1875. The first letter describes the various crops, the grasshopper problems, damage to crops, a new grist mill being built, land being cleared of stumps, drilling wells and other activities out on the frontier. This letter also mentions a business matter and trying to collect paperwork for the land they owned from a George Eastman with a few other people also mentioned by name. The second letter is of a more urgent nature concerning recovering notes held George Eastman on Bronson's land. The letter reads in part: "Brother Stephen, I wish you to go over to George Eastmans and ask him who he delivered them notes to that belonged to me they should a been given to me but I was sick at the time....when I got better I asked my wife where them notes were and she said Sabin had carried them off the notes was a thousand dollars and the interest...now I have been here four years and I never worked harder in my life..." The letters provide an interesting narrative of life on the Canadian frontier of western Ontario in 1875. The first letter is a bit faint but still legible. Both letters are in good shape overall..
