Contemporary full calf with tripled-lined embossed border, with leather and metal clasps, flat spine, all edges speckled red. , Covers worn, occasional mild browning internally, but generally a very good copy., 12mo, P. frontis, (1), title, (13), 1-653, index (16), (1),, Elaborate initials and end pieces throughout. With 6 maps, including the frontispiece map and 5 folding maps, one of which is of the world. All the maps are done and engraved by Nikolaus Hautt.

“Although parts of Australasia are shown, the general configuration of the world map and the style of engraving hark back to fifty years earlier. A large number of works by Bartoli – who was a prolific Jesuit author also writing under the pseudonym Ferrante Longobardi – are listed in the British Museum catalogue, but not his Geographia” (Shirley). Nikolaus Hautt was a “cartographer, engraver and printer of Constance”. His maps appeared in Daniele Bartoli’s Geographia moralibus et politicis in 1674 and also in Lacus Acronianus in 1675 (Tooley).
