ISBN B003BLABMM

First Edition / First Printing. Fine in No Dust Jacket, As Issued. 30 pages. Artist Book. Collection of super-imposed photographs. One of the most unusual and most beautiful erotic art photography books of our time. The first and only edition. Published in a tiny print run as a softcover original only. The Artist Book is now rare. An austerely elegant production by Jo Brunenberg: Oversize-volume format. Ribbed cream softcovers with titles on the cover, as issued. Art by Leonardo da Vinci. Photographic tableaux/superimpositions by Jo Brunenberg. Essay by Willem K. Coumans. The piece is a Dionysian counter-voice to Brunenberg's coolly Apollonian imagery, written as a rhapsody, as delirium and ecstasy, and in a style that fuses Friedrich Nietzsche with Walt Whitman, two of modern photography's philosophical mentors. Printed on glassine and pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in The Netherlands to the highest standards. Without DJ, as issued. Presents, in a lovely collectible format, Jo Brunenberg's "Immagini Scoperte". Male nudes, an homage to the genius of Leonardo da Vinci. Each male nude is superimposed with a sketch from Leonardo's scientific notebooks. Brunenberg appropriates Leonardo's exquisite sketches and poses his full-frontal nude models as though they were interacting with, and in some cases, completing Leonardo's drawings, in seamless fusion. One of the most beautiful resulting images is "Camera Obscura", which shows one model seemingly taking a photograph of another using Leonardo's imaginary instrument. As is well-known, Leonardo anticipated by more than four hundred years the invention of the camera (and therefore, photography), among other epochally visionary achievements of the greatest artist in Western history. "Originating from an interplay with Leonardo's scientific drawings, Emanating from the Human Body, they form a Theatrum Anatomicum of their own, with Man as the Measure of All Things, reaching out for the Light and aware of the Freedom that is close by. Images that are Witness to both Sight and Insight, realized with great precision yet lyrical in content. Head lifted to the heavens, Man stands Radiant and spreads his wings" (Willem K. Coumans, capital letters are all his). In lesser hands, this would have dismally flopped. Brunenberg's taste, restraint, and conviction make his imagery among the most original, compelling, and unforgettable nudes one will ever see. Inspired by Leonardo indeed. An absolute "must-have" title for Jo Brunenberg and erotic art photography collectors. This title is a late-modern erotic art photography classic. This is one of few copies of the Artist Book still available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright, a pristine beauty. Please note: Copies available online have serious flaws or are remainder-marked. This is surely an accessible and lovely alternative. A rare copy thus. 20 superimposed photographic plates. One of the finest artist/photographers of the male nude of our time. A fine copy. . ISBN B003BLABMM.
