Original publisher's blue cloth binding. 5 3/8" x 5 3/4." 130 pages, complete. Forty-six black and white illustrations (with the exception of one, all are full-page plates), complete. Originally issued in eight parts, this copy is the complete bound version with an additional fold-out color plate (frontispiece) showing "the 'Greater Britain' as she appeared during Her Majesty's Diamond Jubilee." In the back are seven additional wrappers that come in a variety of colors with beautiful gilt decorations and an illustration of a train on each one (originally eight; wrappers for Parts II-XIII are included). These wrappers came with this bound version. The front cover has "George T. Juckes & Co., Book Merchants and Exporters, 35, John Bright Street, Birmingham" printed at the bottom. Former ownership bookplate on the front pastedown shows a silhouetted illustration of a train with a man loading coal into the locomotive and an airborne cow in from of the train's pilot or cowcatcher: "From the Library of Henry C. Jones." Pages and covers are very clean and intact. Binding is tight. Very slight age and edge wear. A Fine copy. A collection of brief histories and descriptions of different locomotives affiliated with the London and North Western Railway (LNWR; L&NWR). The LNWR was a British railway company that operated from 1846-1922. In 1923, LNWR merged with the London, Midland and Scottish Railway (LMS). In 1948, the London Midland Region of British Railways (LMR) acquired former LMS lines and types of locomotives and operated until 1992.
