Errol John Le Cain (b.1941 d.1989.) Worked as Erroll Le Cain.Born in Singapore,son of a member of the police force.During his childhood,he travelled extensively in the Far East and lived for five years in India.He worked in Pearl & Dean advertising studios (1956-60),and on animated films and titles in the Richard Williams Studio (1960-67). Following that he worked freelance as a film,television and exhibition designer.As a book illustrator,Le Cain had developed a distinctive graphic style in which outline and pattern are dominant elements.He aimed to create bold,simple designs (retaining relevant detail) that can be dramatic or humorous,and adapts his style to the varying moods of the stories.He uses pan and ink,with gouache for colour work.He won the Kate Greenaway Medal with 'Hiawatha's Childhood' (UK,FABER, 1984) in 1985. Since April 2013,again in March 2015,and in this year too,the UK Post Office has altered it's Pricing in Proportion template,altering it's prices,weight allowances,dimensions and lowered it's qualifying compensation rates too!
