William Cassidy (1815-1873) was an American journalist, essayist, and critic based in New York. After graduating from the Albany Academy and Union College, he studied law with John Van Buren, the latter of whom was the son of President Martin Van Buren. Cassidy was appointed as the State Librarian of New York in 1843. He later became an editor of Atlas, a magazine based in Albany, New York. He maintained his editorship upon the Atlas's consolidation with Argus magazine. Cassidy remained an editor of Argus until his passing in 1873. Among his other accolades was being a member of the State Constitutional Convention of 1871 and being appointed by Governor Hoffman to revise the State Constitution in 1872.. Manuscript.
