this is the leather bound first limited edition. number 16 of 250 copies bound in full green leather with raised bands to the spine. the boards are rubbed and knocked, especially on the spine, the red label on the spine is also faded. the book is signed and dated by cartwright on the title page. this book was dedicated by cartwright to Cecily and Jack Niven. it is signed on the dedication page by Cecily Niven. there is also an original photograph included of Jan Smuts and a party of people at Vergelegen, possibly including the author or Niven. there is also a copy of a lengthy letter addressed to 'my dear lionel' it is not signed but the address is Sherfield Manor, Basingstoke. dated 1907. internally the book is clean and well bound. the binding is excellent..
