Mendelssohn 1:612. John Ayliff, a Wesleyan Minister and settler of 1820 originated the idea of the commemorative proceedings. Together with John Centlivres Chase, he tried to keep the style similar to that customary in America in connection with the landing of the 'Pilgrim Fathers'.
